Shark Reef Sunset

Shark Reef Sunset

August 15, 2006 | Lopez Island

This picture was taken from Lopez Island, one of the San Juan Islands off of the coast of Washington and British Columbia. This area is pretty amazing and less inhabited than much of the surrounding area.

What I like about this shot are the details. Although hard to see in this image, the picture has little bits that make it full of stories. For example, directly in the center of the image, on the peninsula of the island across the passageway, is Cattle Point Lighthouse – a unique, very picturesque light house. Also, on the left hand side of the image in the distance, is the Olympic Peninsula and Olympic National Park – one of my most favorite places in Washington. The small island to the left, just off of Lopez was inhabited by a bunch of harbor seals. It was very interesting to see all of them roaming the water and barking. There were a few that came over to check us out while we watched the sunset.
