Fountain of Niaids

Fountain of Niaids

August 31, 2005 | Rome

This shot was taken at the fountain in the middle of the Piazza della Republica in central Rome. This fountain was conveniently located right outside of my hotel.

This fountain is named the Fountain of the Niaids. Niaids are the nymphs who protect rivers, lakes, oceans and the underground. This fountain was originally finished in 1900, but was not turned on until a year later because the female statues were considered by many people to be too provocative for the times.
